Description

The dataset includes data on fish species distribution along the shoreline of 25 Italian lakes and reservoirs achieved by point abundance standardised electrofishing. Data were obtained between 2007 and 2014. The database offers a detailed description of the biodiversity of fish communities in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige and Sardinia including both natural lakes and reservoirs. Detailed metadata can be found in the Freshwater Metadatabase (http://data.freshwaterbiodiversity.eu/metadb/bf_mdb_view.php?entryID=FWM_20) and in the Freshwater Metadata Journal (http://freshwaterjournal.eu).

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 239 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Versions

The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods

specification of method(s) used for sampling and sorting: The electrofishing device was a built-in-frame EL64GII (Scubla Acquaculture, 7,000 W, 600 V, DC current) set up with a copper cathode (width 2.5 cm, length 300 cm) and a steel ring anode (thickness 0.8 cm, diameter 50 cm). The Point Abundance Sampling Electrofishing (PASE) method (Copp & Garner, 1995; ISPRA, 2014) was used in which the anode is dipped for 20 s at each sampling point. The number of points depended on lake size and habitat complexity.

Study Extent The dataset includes data on fish species distribution along the shoreline of 25 Italian lakes and reservoirs achieved by point abundance standardised electrofishing. Data were obtained between 2007 and 2014.

Method step description:

  1. commonly used series of methods steps regarding fish (e.g. sampling, identification, data management)
